HOW TO CLEAN AND MAINTAIN YOUR WINTER COAT ?

THE WINTER COAT
When we live in Quebec, we know that the coat is one of the most important pieces of our closet. We choose it with care because it will keep us warm all winter long. Buying a winter coat is often expensive, we know how important this acquisition is so we give you here everything we know to make your coat last throughout the years

WHAT IS YOUR WINTER COAT MADE OF?
First of all, you need to know what your winter coat is made of. There are two possibilities: either it's synthetic or it's down. You can find this information on the label of your coat. The composition of the coat will make a difference for the drying stage only.

Important: We cannot guarantee that our washing tips are 100% suitable for all coats, so it is important to read your coat label before starting the cleaning process.

PRELIMINARY STEPS TO CLEAN YOUR COAT
Just a reminder to empty all pockets of your coat before starting the cleaning process.
Close your zippers.
If your coat has fur, be sure to remove it as it cannot be cleaned with it.
We recommend washing your coat inside out because yes, it does get very dirty from the inside. Later on, in the rinsing section, you will be advised to rinse your coat twice so that it is clean all over.

MACHINE CLEANING
I learned this information from Clothilde: it is possible to wash your heavy winter coat in the washing machine. Be careful, Clothilde mentions that a front loader is necessary. Unfortunately, top loading machines could damage your coat because of the friction between the coat and the agitator and the structure of the machine could also let your coat soak in water, which is not recommended.

Delicate cycle: you should opt for a cold water delicate cycle.
Preferred soap: choose a mild soap without softener (softener could clog the pores of the coat, making it less waterproof and breathable).
There are products specially designed to restore your coat's waterproofing (such as Grangers, which we in the team do not know enough about). In the future, we would like to do some research for you and offer you alternatives of products that we will verify to be respectful of the environment and our health.
DOUBLE RINSE IN MACHINE
We advise you to rinse in two steps:

Once on the reverse side since you have probably washed your coat like that.
Once on the right side so that it is equally clean on both sides.
MACHINE DRYING
Is your coat synthetic? You will have to dry it with cold air and/or dry it flat so that the water doesn't make little rings on the bottom of your coat.

Is your coat made of down? You can dry it with a little heat, and to give it back its "puffiness" you can dry it with tennis balls / dryer balls or a dry towel. Little tip for tennis balls, you can put them in socks so you don't have little yellow thread residue on your coat
