THE PERFECT CHINO

Among the men's pants that can be worn all year round, the chino is at the top of my preferences. I love this material and the look it gives. It's both casual and dressy at the same time. By the way, you seem to like it too, when I see the number of men who wear chinos. For years I didn't wear jeans, but only chino pants. I tested all the brands! From Zara to Dockers to Uniqlo. I've become an expert on how to choose a man's chino! I've also had time to look around and test a lot of different styles to help you know how to wear a man's chino.

It's time for me to tell you everything I know about these pants.

WHAT IS A MEN'S CHINO?
The sources are as numerous as the stories that are told about these pants. The chino could come from India or from the American soldiers stationed in the Philippines. In any case, it is a canvas pant that comes from the world of the military, and whose cotton canvas was originally dyed beige / sand color.

HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN A JEAN AND A CHINO?
What makes the difference between a chino and a pair of jeans is the details of the pants and the thickness of the cotton twill used. On the jeans, there are usually 5 pockets, including a small gusset pocket - to store your pocket watch - inside the front right pocket. The two front pockets of the jeans are rider pockets and the two back pockets are buttock pockets.

Unlike jeans, the chino does not necessarily have a gusset pocket, the front pockets are Italian pockets, and the back pockets are not patch pockets but piped. That is to say that they are inside the pants, and that you put your hand inside via a "piping" (left on the picture).

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHINO FABRIC AND DENIM FABRIC
As for the fabric used, jeans are made of a thick and heavy fabric - denim - usually indigo and woven with a fairly coarse grain compared to the chino fabric. One detail that can mislead you is the name selvedge. You can have both selvedge jeans and selvedge chinos. The selvedge is just a way of weaving the cotton fabric. Even though the two pants may look similar, all these details make them two very different men's pants.
