Which cuts to choose for your coat ?
There are a dozen variations of coat cuts. You certainly have one in your wardrobe.
The Chesterfield and Covert coat cuts
The Chesterfield coat -
These cuts both have a medium lapel, a slit in the back, 4 pockets including two classic horizontal piped pockets with flap, a chest pocket located on the left and optional and a ticket pocket.
Less long than the first one, the Covert coat goes up to mid-thigh while the Chesterfield sometimes reaches below the knee and is distinguished by its more highlighted hanger.
If the Chesterfield cut is distinguished by its concealed buttoning, these coats take on the more classic form of single buttoning.
The Caban :
The Caban -
This style represents the coat in its most classic form. Originally used by 15th century pirates, the pea coat is characterized by a wide, straight collar, outlined shoulders and hip pockets. It is marked by a double buttonhole. The coat is often navy blue.
The Duffle Coat:
The Duffle Coat -
The Duffle Coat is the symbol of the coats of the English sailors of the XIXth century. It is distinguished by buttons in the shape of horns and a buttonhole made of rope ties. Perfect for winter, the Duffle Coat is equipped with a hood to protect from the cold. This type of coat is available in both short and long cuts.
The Parka
The parka -
Of military origin and particularly adopted by the Soviet army, this khaki colored coat was worn by Russian political leaders, including Stalin, Trotsky and Lenin. The parka was created to face the Siberian climate. This explains its double lining. The parka also has a hood and its exterior is made of windproof material.
